Public Relations Assistant

The Sweetwater County Library System seeks a Public Relations Assistant to assist the Assistant Director with the public relations and marketing activities of the library. Tasks include working with all library departments to coordinate the promotion and advocacy of library programs, services, and collections. This is a full time position working 35 hours a week with some Saturdays and evenings. Pay starts at $21.39 per hour and includes generous health insurance and retirement benefits. A strong commitment to the library’s mission and a Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing or related field and one to three years of experience are all required. Public Relations Assistant  
1. Writes and submits information about library services, materials and programs to local media, community event calendars and other news and information outlets. 
2. Creates flyers, posters, and brochures to publicize library programs and services.
3. Manages the library’s social media presence and uses social media to publicize library programs and services. 
4. Assists in the maintenance and design of the library’s website.
5. Creates and edits video content for publicity.
6. Is aware of and helps publicize national library events.
7. Attends meetings and communicates regularly with the management team.
8. Is knowledgeable and aware of library policy and procedures. 
9. Maintains patron confidentiality in compliance with Wyoming state law. 

1. Works with the management team on special events.
2. Takes photos for library publicity.
3. Works with other staff to reach out to the community.
4. Remains informed about community events and resources. 
5. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge of: 
1. Knowledge and correct use of English vocabulary, grammar and spelling.
2. Knowledge of arithmetic; keyboarding skills.
3. Knowledge of social medial strategies and platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, ect.
4. Knowledge of and ability to apply effective writing and public speaking techniques.
Ability to: 
1. Ability to work with the general public. 
2. Ability to learn and apply appropriate computer programs including graphic design and audio and video editing software.
3. Ability to operate a motor vehicle; possession of a valid driver’s license. 
4. Ability to be insured by the library system’s auto insurance policy.

• Supervised by the Assistant Library Director 
Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing or related field and 1 to 3 years of experience. 

Schedule Requirements: Must be able to work a flexible schedule that includes nights and weekends.

Travel: This position requires travel between facilities in the library system using a library vehicle and/or your own vehicle. You must have or be able to obtain a current driver’s license valid in the State of Wyoming, have the ability to operate a motor vehicle and be able to be insured by the library system’s auto insurance policy.    

Work Environment and Physical Demands: The essential functions of the job require the employee to work inside in an office environment. Frequent stooping, bending, walking over uneven spaces, lifting or carrying heavy (up to 30-40 pounds) is required.
