If Americans spend one third of their lives sleeping, it is safe to say they also spend one third of their lives dreaming. On Wednesday, July 21 at 7:00 pm at the White Mountain Library Ellie Davis and Bianca Jorgensen will present a program on dream interpretation. Their program, entitled “In Dreams I Awaken: Secrets to Dream Interpretation”, will explore the role and value of dreams, as well as the many ways to interpret them.
According to Eaton and Jorgensen, dreams and dreamers have played an important role in ancient and modern cultures, often being used to promote personal growth and enrichment. They noted that in the contemporary world, some psychologists and spiritualists have viewed dream interpretation as a way to understand the unconscious mind.
Davis and Jorgensen consider themselves self taught and have a combined 27 years of dedication and research to the practice of dream interpretation. Drawing upon personal experience, Davis and Jorgensen will share the resources and tools they use to remember and interpret their dreams. Many of these resources and tools are available as books, audio books and DVDs from the Sweetwater County Library System including: James Lewis’s The Dream Encyclopedia, Gayle Delaney’s Your Sleeping Genius: Harnessing the Hidden Power of Your Dreams, Tony Crisp’s Dream Dictionary: An A to Z Guide to Understanding Your Unconscious Mind and Sylvia Browne’s Book of Dreams. There are also several dream resources available online; Davis and Jorgensen will help participants learn which of these online resources are the most reliable, useful, and easy to use in interpreting dreams.
The “In Dreams I Awaken: Secrets to Dream Interpretation” program was organized to coincide with the recent Hollywood release of “Inception”, a film which will likely raise several questions about dreaming in the minds of its viewers. Davis and Jorgensen hope to answer these questions in addition to providing dream interpretation guidance.
“In Dreams I Awaken: Secrets to Dream Interpretation” is sponsored by the Sweetwater County Library System as part of the Adult Summer Reading program.
