Thank you to everyone that purchased tickets to attend the Sweetwater County Library’s first ever Dinner and Ghost Walk.  The food was fabulous and was provided by local chef Josh Mace.  Thanks to Josh and his team for all the hard work.  The event was a huge success.

I am posting the video I took while on the Walk.  There was a large amount of activity.  Let’s see what you think we found.

My experiences in the Sweetwater County Library

The new Ghost Hunting apps are fast becoming the newest thing.  Many of the Smart phone now have several versions of this new paranormal tool.  If this is something you are interested in, check with your app provider for more information on each app and all of the specialties they provide.  During last years Ghost Walks several participants used their Smart phones and the new apps to capture evidence while in the library.

The following was submitted by Bobbi Justice a library patron.  She currently uses an ITouch with a Ghost Hunter M2 app.

I have an ITouch that has an application on it called Ghost Hunter M2.  I have had several experiences at the library.  One of my first experiences was when I was walking toward the restroom, I walked past the staircase and saw a man standing at the top of the stairs and could tell he was very angry with the people that were there.  I had gone into the restroom by myself.  The restroom was empty.  While I was in the stall I heard a little girl outside of the stall.  I asked if someone was there and received no answer.  I left the stall and after washing my hands, I was guided into the end stall.  I couldn’t see all of the little girl but I did see her dress which was older in fashion.  She held my hand and asked me to help her.  This occurred during the first week of October.

I used my itouch and just old the people there that if they had something to say they could speak into my hand and I would see what they would to say.  All of these responses were on the main floor of the library while we were looking for books to bring home.

During our tour I had several experiences.  When we first started the tour we went into the restroom first.  I was one of the last people into the restroom.  I asked if anyone was here. The two women who were beside me heard me and then saw the response.   The response that I received was Newell then through the ghost box the name Newell was heard.  I felt him and I felt the little girl in the room.  She was feeling a little overwhelmed with all of the people in her space.  After everyone left she led me into the end stall and asked me to help her again.  When I was guided into the stall there were other people there.  They saw me talking to her.  They could feel her as well.  Then we left and started to go through the main level of the library.  We were on the children side.  I could hear people talking, people who were not on the tour with us.  We walked toward the big tree and I could smell cigar smoke.  The smell was thick and overwhelming.  As we walked toward the Young Adult area I could feel someone walking behind us, it felt like a man who was not happy with us being in “his place”.  I was at the tail end of the tour and felt a lot of people behind me, people that were not a part of the tour.  We went into the young adult area and in the corner I saw a man with a tall hat and could tell he was not happy we were there.  We then went to office right behind the counter.  In the corner by the copier there were two dark figures.  I could see them and the room had a peculiar smell.  As Ellie was telling the group about some of the things that had happened in this area, the dark figures left.  We went back to the garage but I felt nothing there.  As we went up the back staircase the feeling that I got was that we were not welcome there.  It was stifling.  My breathing was burdened and it was extremely hot.  I felt like something was pushing down on me.  We talked about the stairwell and things that had occurred there.  We went into the lounge and had things occur there.  I went around by the sink and someone was in the corner watching us.  I didn’t get a sense of who it was but it was someone.  As we were leaving the tour we were walking down the hallway, I felt like we were being herded out of the area.  It was like someone was pushing us out of there.  As we were walking toward the top of the stairs, I could not walk past a certain spot because a man was standing at the top of the stairs and didn’t want to let me pass.  He was very angry that I was there but didn’t want to let me leave.  As I got to the top of the stairs he started to push me down the stairs.

Now each time I walk past those stairs I can see him, he has a lot of malice to those who he does not welcome in that place.  The little girl in the bathroom is there and asks for help but I don’t know how to help her.   I like being at the library.  I’m not afraid of it and respect all that are there, even the man that hates me.

If you use an ITouch and are interested in the paranormal there are several apps available.  Check with your app store.

If you do try the new apps and are in the library please share your information.

No Spook Alley Here

March 30, 2012 on 3:45 pm | In Uncategorized | No Comments

The Sweetwater County Library has been hosting a Ghost Walk for several years now.  What started out as a Young Adult program has grown to include Young Adults and Adults alike.   One question we are asked more than we like is “Is the Ghost Walk a Spook Alley?”  The answer is no.

It seems that because the SWCL Ghost Walk has traditionally been in October some people assume that anything to do with the paranormal is also some type of Spook Alley.  This may be the case for some locations but as for the Sweetwater County Library it is not.  We pride ourselves on keeping our Ghost Walks a paranormal investigation.  If you are attending with a spook alley theme in mind, you will be in for a surprise.

During a Ghost Walk you will be guided through the library with a group by either Ellie Davis or myself.  The group will stop by several of the so called “hotspots” in the library that have reported paranormal activity.   These spots include the Ladies Room, the Gallery, the Multi-purpose Room, Youth Services, Young Adult Section, the Workroom, back hallway, and the Staff Lounge.  As you are guided on your tour the guide will tell stories reported in the SWCL Ghost Log by staff and patrons.

I have several ghost hunting gadgets that we allow a few chosen tour participants to use.  They gadgets are a KII meter, EMF detector, laser grid light, digital thermometer, and digital recorder.  Cameras, video recorders and cell phones are used to record evidence as well.  Anyone attending may also bring ghost hunting gadgets if they wish.  Our one requirement is that if you do catch evidence you share with us to be recorded in the Ghost Log and High Spirits: The Ghost Log Blog.

As the tour moves through the library we will stop to do several EVP sessions.  An EVP is an electronic voice phenomenon or basically a voice or noise recorded that would not normally be heard at the time.  During the history of the Ghost Walks these are some of the best evidence gathered.  Recordings have been captured of everything from a little girl telling us her age to a man’s voice saying “Just keep walking”.

In the last two years attendees have been lucky enough to catch a few photos of the ghosts that have joined us on our tours.  Paula Birell captured the photo of the gentleman with a top hat walking along the back of the book stacks, Kyle and Shalise Lamb caught a photo of a little girl peeking out from behind the new book display.  And Hannah Redden caught a ghost with long dark hair at the bottom of the stairs looking down from the upper hallway.   We always appreciate those that share with us.  A big thank you to all of you that do.

When asking questions we use the KII, EMF and digital recorders of various types.  From personal experience it was a moment of shock the first time I used my new KII (that my son Wilson bought me for Mother’s Day.  Yes this is true.)  The first time you see the lights on the KII light as you ask a question, then it stops until another question is asked, will certainly make you think. We have seen total non-believers suddenly ask to use the device to check for tampering.  When they realize we do not tramper with the devices or add props or any such things to our Ghost Walks, their whole demeanor changes.

Just recently I was asked if we use props or stage the paranormal events in any way.  The answer is always no we do not. The SWCL strongly believes in the truth, whatever that is.  As we tell anyone that asks “It is what it is.”  If you attend a Ghost Walk you are not promised you will see, hear, or feel anything.  Rather our hope is that the spirits/ghosts will choose to interact with us on the particular night.   We assume they would like to be treated with respect and we try our best to respect them as well.

New this year we are providing more Ghost Walks due to popular demand.  The first will be May 5th and tickets go on sale April 2nd at the Sweetwater County Library only.  We are charging a $5 fee per ticket to help raise money for the SWCLS Foundation.

Also coming up is:

July 28th for a Dinner/Ghost Walk Fund Raiser ($100 per plate) A Very special event for a limited ticket sales of 20.

September 16th Ghost Walk

October 27th Ghost Walk

Please come join us for a real paranormal investigation.

Ghost Log 2009 (Ghost Log Postings 2009) Part IV

March 30, 2011 on 3:52 pm | In Uncategorized | No Comments

Two summers ago there was a small class of pre-school kids who arrived early for Storytime and were waiting out front playing with their teachers. One of the teachers came in to use the restroom. Shortly after, she came out of the restroom quite literally looking like she had just seen a ghost. She approached the front desk and asked the librarian, “Is there a little girl in the bathroom?” and the librarian said, “A real girl? Or a ghost girl?” I was at the copy machine and this statement got my attention. The woman said in a shaky voice, “I don’t know…”  I asked if she was okay as she hurried towards the front door; she said at first that she didn’t want to talk about it. When she came in with the class I pulled her aside and said, “I don’t mean to upset you further; I am just curious; did the little girl look as if she was of Oriental decent?” {Many years ago, there had been an apparition of a little girl who was oriental and dressed in clothing native to the Orient…no has reported seeing her for many years and I was curious} The woman let out a big sigh and said, “Ok. I’ll tell you what happened.”  She stated that she couldn’t remember seeing the child’s face really.  The woman stated that as she was leaving the last stall and heading for the sink to wash her hands, there was a little girl in a white, old fashioned nightgown standing by the sink in the corner between the sink and the changing table. The child had two long brown braids. The woman smiled at her and said, “Hello.” Then she turned to the sink to wash her hands. She suddenly realized that the whole thing was strange; where the child was standing, and her clothing, etc… Startled, she glanced up to where the child had been standing and she was gone. She said the bathroom was suddenly very cold.

As mentioned some of the people in the group wanted to record, so we settled down in an attempt to be quiet enough to hear something on a recording. I had my back to the stalls. One woman said, “Is there anyone in here with us?” before she even finished talking we all heard a whispering around us…with the exception of one person, we couldn’t hear what it said, however one woman exclaimed immediately, “I heard a name! I heard a name! I heard someone say ‘Gretchen’!” At about this time a few people all exclaimed, “Whoa! Did you see that?! Ellie, did you touch the door to the stall?” I did not touch it. Apparently the door to the stall moved…opened behind me. At least three people saw it. We all felt strongly like we wanted to get the heck out of there and did. The other people in the gallery, when I reluctantly offered to take them in the bathroom adamantly and unanimously declined. We played back the recording from the bathroom and as the patron ask; “Is there anyone in here with us?” everyone can plainly hear a loud whisper in a man’s voice say, “Gretchen”

We continued on the walk. For the most part we didn’t have too many other things happen. There were many people who would all exclaim at the same time, “Whoa, do you smell that? It smells like incense!” Or, “…it smells like flowers or perfume…” there were several times that we felt really cold patches pass between us. I was useless with the k-2 meter; gesturing with my hand that was holding it, so unfortunately I don’t know if we had any light-ups with it. We made it all the way to the garage and there really wasn’t a strong feeling of a presence…until we entered the garage. One person got a photograph of an orb in there too. We stood in there for a few min and then all of us had the urge to get out. Quick. We did. Next we headed upstairs…again, many people, myself included, felt cold patches and dizzy spells for several of us. When we reached the lounge upstairs there were two people who instantly felt sick and dizzy upon entering, and this was mentioned well before I told them about how that happens with some people in that room.

Our time in the multi-purpose room during the 2nd Ghost Walk:

We headed back to the multipurpose room and Micki got her group together to go on round two. We told people what happened in group one and Micki had the existing e.v.p.’s pulled up on the computer on the big screen. So we listened to those and people began listening to their phones trying to see if we got any recordings.  Several people did in fact record voices that were not us, or that spoke in response to a question as we were all quiet, giving the spirits an opportunity to answer. The most notable from this tour was from the bathroom with the name Gretchen.

One guy, who was listening to the e.v.p.’s with me, suddenly felt sad and had tears in his eyes for no apparent reason. He remained extremely upset and finally called his ride to come get him. There were several more people who became extremely emotional and teary for no apparent reason from that point on. Two separate young ladies took me aside to talk to me. Each of them was crying. When I asked what was wrong, neither one really knew.

We had several instances of cold spots; cold air.

This was sent to me by an online subscription to “Library Links of the Day”.  The motive of this creation was to draw attention to libraries and budget cuts.  All libraries are facing money issues and changes.  We are no exception.

Special thanks to ImprovEverywhere and the NYC Public Library.

Since libraries and ghosts are two of my favorite things I thought I would share this hilarious clip with you.

Psychic Children

June 15, 2010 on 7:12 pm | In Uncategorized | No Comments

Recently I was flipping through channels one night trying to find something to watch on television and I ran across a show called “Psychic Kids: Children of the paranormal”.  I am always looking for a new paranormal show so I stopped and watched.   The premise of the show is two adults that are professional psychics; take two or three young people and their parents to a psychic weekend get-away.

Generally it seems many of the young people are having difficulties as you might have guessed dealing with their special connections.  Many families and friends do not understand what it is they are going through and it has taken a hard toll on their young lives.  Although they did not ask for their gifts they try their best to deal with what they see, hear, feel, etc.  It is very hard on them.

The psychic adults that are doing the “workshops” seem very kind and understanding.  As they phrase it “We have been there and we know what it is like”.  And they do seem to try to teach the young people how to take control and get their lives back.  Unfortunately if is sometimes hard and it does take time.  They are given steps and tools to work with.  After time things do seem better, not always totally ok, but at least they are providing hope for someone that otherwise would seem lost.

In some ways as a mother I found it disturbing to see how scared and distraught the kids were and how hopeless their parents seemed.  As a parent s, when you hear a child say they talked to someone many of us have assumed that they have an imaginary friend and we dismiss it.  Well…maybe we should not always dismiss it so quickly.  If you watch a few of the episodes you will see just what some of the children are dealing with.  Some of it is very intense.

After watching one episode I am hooked.  I now try to catch new episodes whenever I can.  I have learned a lot from just the few I have watched.  If you have a child that is having similar difficulties or you have gifts of your own and need help you might contact the experts on the website for assistance.  Or if you are interested in watching please visit A & E Television or the website below.
