Projects

This page lists the current IT projects that are in the works for our Library System. The information on this page will be updated often, but may not always be the most current. If you have any questions, please contact dhalter@sweetwaterlibraries.com

Gigabit Backbone Upgrade

Status: WML is fully gigabit. SCL and RSL still need switches.
Description: With the new fiber-optic infrastructure, we are able to have 1000Mbps speeds between each building. However, our current routers/switches only allow 100Mbps throughput. Also, our current routers have firewall and VPN capabilities which also slow them down. This project plans to replace all switches and routers in each building with gigabit capability.
ETA: Unknown. Budget cuts have limited purchases for FY10-11

MS Office 2007 Upgrade

Status: All computers have been upgraded.
Description: We are currently using the MS Office 2003 version on all computers in our system. Our Library System will be migrating to the 2007 version. The staff computers will be the first to receive the upgrade so that they may have a better feel for the new version. The patron computers will be the next phase.
ETA: Finished!

Fiber Optic Backbone / Internet Upgrade

Status: Finished!
Description: A fiber optic backbone system capable of connecting the three main libraries with gigabit bandwidth. This will benefit the staff with the ability to transfer data, have better phone bandwidth, and provide off-site backups. For the patrons, the Internet will be faster at all three Libraries. White Mountain Library will notice a dramatic speed increase. The Internet will be 15 times faster overall.
ETA: Finished!
