Since the beginning of February the Rock Springs Library has been accepting donations for Operation Gratitude. We collected quite a bit of stuff: beanie babies, toys, snacks, jerky, hand made scarves, socks, chap stick, personal care items, all from our community! We have a total of seven boxes ready to send and we send out a BIG thank you! to all of our donators. We look forward to doing it again in the fall with another drive for donations. In the meantime, check out their website and listen to the words of those who are serving.

Have you read Cutting For Stone? Have you considered it?

NPR Books is proud to announce that for the second installment of our Book Club experiment, we will read and discuss Abraham Verghese’s cross-cultural epic of family, love and medicine, Cutting For Stone. And, to keep things interesting, we’re introducing a new wrinkle to the Book Club this month: the author will personally call (or videochat) in to three local Meetups, chosen at random from among qualifying groups. Read on for details on how to participate.
HOW TO PARTICIPATE:
We are excited to present a new way to connect with Mr. Verghese as you read the book — the doctor will personally drop in on three book club meet-ups. Read on for how to put your local club in the running (and how to participate online along the way).
1) Read the book. We will be aiming to finish it by the first week of April.
2) Discuss the book on Twitter. We have set up an account, @nprbkclub, where we will be asking questions and leading discussions about the book. Follow us for more. You can also discuss the book on your own account by using the hashtag #nprbookclub.
3) Talk to Dr. Verghese and fellow readers on Facebook. We have set up a discussion board called “Ask Abraham Verghese” on our Facebook page (LINK). He will be there throughout the month to answer questions and spark conversations.
4) Register for a local Meetup at www.meetup.com/NPR-Book-Club/. AND HERE’S THE GOOD PART: All meetups that can get over 10 people to sign up will be entered for a drawing — the three winning groups will enjoy a visit from Dr. Verghese himself (over video or phone depending on location).
We are excited to get your thoughts and start reading together.
