Storytime Sneak Peek: The Sun Spinner Craft

20th May, 2013 - Posted by avolner - No Comments

Storytime starts up again in June, and no doubt some of you are wondering what we’ll be doing for crafts. Here’s a sneak peek of our craft for “Fun in the Sun”.

Sun Spinners are a fun little disc that spins on a string to form a pretty colored design in the air! To begin we’ll use the following materials:

Sun Spinner One

* A disc of cardboard, with two holes punched in it
* A length of yarn
* Crayons, or markers; something to decorate with

The next step will be to decorate our sun spinner however we want!

We're putting a red sun on our spinner, but you can put whatever you want!

Doesn't it look cool?!

Next we’re going to insert our yarn through both holes in the center of our spinner, like this:

Run the yarn through the first hole

Then run the other end of the yarn through the other hole in the same direction! You should end up with a loop of yarn and one side and two ends of yarn on the other.

After that, all that’s left is to give our sun spinner a good winding up and let it twirl! Don’t worry, we’ll show you how to make it work when you come to story time. We hope to see you there!
